Peculiar is a city in Cass County, in the Kansas City metro area. The town motto is, appropriately enough, "Where the 'odds' are with you." One tradition says the community was named by a spiritualist who declared it peculiar that he had seen the site in a vision. Another theory says the name originated with a postmaster who repeatedly submitted names to the postal service, only to have them all rejected. He was told to try something "peculiar".
The City Of Peculiar is growing and incorporating new land, business and residents continuously. However, it remains a wonderful, warm community, with a 'small town' feel, in which to raise a family.
